Leonel Alvarez a new Colombia coach

Leonel Alvarez has been confirmed as new Columbia coach replace Hernan Dario Gomez,

Alvarez declared himself delighted to have been given the opportunity to lead the Seleccion, and had no doubt over what his principal objective was on assuming command.

"They are a brilliant group of players and everyone is totally committed towards our key objective which is qualification for the Brazil World Cup [in 2014]," he announced to reporters in his first press conference.

Alvarez nevertheless enjoys a stellar reputation in Colombia for his playing career, during which he appeared 101 times for the national team and featured in the 1990 and 1994 World Cups.
